Maybe We are All Connected (Cue "Twilight Zone" Music)

Let me share an eerie occurrence that just happened to me...

I finished lunch at California Pizza Kitchen, here in Maryland,  and am walking back to my car when a thought pops into my mind to call my long-time friend Kim, who lives over in Wales.

Though Kim and I keep in regular touch via email, we've probably only spoken on the phone 5-7x in the last 25 years, usually around holiday's, birthdays or trips he makes to the States.

At first I dismissed the thought of calling him because of the time difference and long-distance charges. Then a few seconds later the thought popped in my head again, and since I've been trying hard to trust my intuition I picked up my cell and called him. The phone rang about 10 times with no answer, so I hung up. I waited about 60 seconds seconds and dialed again, this time he picked up. "Hiya mate. Let me ring you back, my car just got in a smash."

Kim just called me back and fortunately he and the other driver all walked away uninjured. I asked him when the accident happened and he replied "about 10 seconds before the first time you called, when I couldn't pick up the phone." I thought and remarked to him how strange that was. He completely agreed. Think about it...Out of the blue I got a feeling like I should call him and it was at nearly that precise moment, to the second, that he was getting into a car accident?! I wonder if I had called right away, instead of dismissing my thought, if I could I have prevented this accident?

The weirdest thing to me is that the odds against this kind of "random" occurrence are absolutely staggering. It seems the only logical and reasonable explanation is that we really all are connected in some way. Maybe Wayne Dyer was right in his book when he explained "You'll See It When You Believe It".

What do you think?

*[Addendum September 16th]
It happened again today. This morning I was flipping through my iPod for a song to play while I took a shower. I came across a song by James Blunt called "So Long Jimmy". This song always makes me think of my good friend Jim and since I love the song and hadn't seen Jim in a while that's what I chose. About 8 hours later, around 4 pm, I get an email out of the blue from guess who? Yep, my friend Jim. He wanted to know if I wanted to play tennis tonight. We did (I won 6-4, 6-0), but just another strange against the odds kind of occurence. I think the Universe is going to keep hitting me with examples of this until I succumb and finally believe.
